Concert Review: TJ Todd Band at Ole Red, Tishomingo – January 18, 2025
If there's one thing you can count on in Tishomingo, it's that Ole Red knows how to throw a party. And on January 18th, the TJ Todd Band took the stage and turned that party up to eleven-maybe twelve, if you count the guy two-stepping dangerously close to falling off his barstool.
From the moment the band kicked into their first song, it was clear they weren't here to play background music while people ate chicken-fried steak. Nope, they came to put on a show. TJ Todd, looking like the kind of guy who's been on both ends of a bar fight and wrote a song about it, had the crowd hooked from the get-go. His voice was equal parts grit and Southern charm, like a mix of whiskey and sweet tea-smooth at first but with a kick that sneaks up on you.
The setlist was a perfect blend of originals and covers, with the band putting their own red-dirt spin on everything from classic country to rowdy rock -n- roll. By the time they wrapped up the night with a barn-burning encore, the dance floor was packed, boots were stomping, and at least one cowboy hat had been flung in the air in what can only be described as a moment of pure honky-tonk joy.
Verdict? If you weren't at Ole Red that night, you missed one hell of a show. The TJ Todd Band proved that country music is alive and well in Oklahoma, and they left no doubt that they can bring the heat, even in the middle of January. Five out of five longneck beers. Would recommend, preferably with a designated driver.
